I blew the diet tonight, i was out drinking beer, and thats not allowed. My English and French friends called me up tonight and said “Hey, its Australia Day today, we are going out to an Aussie bar, come and have a drink with us!” I am ashamed to say i had forgotten Australia Day, and it took them to remind me. So we went to the Clubhouse, a pub which SAYS they serve Coopers but actually never has any in stock, and drank a few Crownies, listened to Barnsie, and generally rocked on! You know, there were so many good blog titles in Barnsie’s songs that you will be playing ‘spot the song’ for weeks to come, i kid you not.

Well ive been thinking ‘bout you, night and day…

Did I tell you about the time that a friend and I beat Barnsie and a drag queen in a pool game at the Mars Bar?

Forgive me, it’s the only Barnsie story that I have.

Saw Barnsie performing at his screeching best at Mardi Gras a hundred years ago.  He had blue hair no less and was given a lukewarm reception by the crowd.  (Am not really a barnsie fan but I will conceed that he is an Australian icon.)

I interviewed Barnsie once with Michael Hutchence at Adelaide Airport when they were arriving for the Australian Made concert at Thebby Oval (circa 1989?). I remember running with them through the fan gauntlet to get to the press conference with Barnsie and Hutchence carrying Barnsie’s kids under each arm.

Damn, everyone has a Barnsie story but me! And dont worry babe, you gotta do worse than that to lose your citizenship

Don’t know who Barnsie is!? The Aussie Elvis?

“Don’t know who Barnsie is..” outrageous but you’re a better person because of this.

Jimmy Barnes is indeed an Australian icon, of Elvis stature, much loved by many Australians far and wide. If you would like to know more, you can check out the man and the history at
