Doug, Ken and Dad taste the wine
Mush time…
Ive been having a lot of trouble keeping warm. It really distressed Ken that i got so cold. I woke up every morning covered in a huge pile of quilt, while he kept only an edge for himself, the total opposite of a boy that steals all the quilt. I know he found the quilt a bit too warm, but still....
He shopped at the markets everyday and bought us food. He cooked for me. The Japanese food smells that wafted out of my kitchen made me totally homesick. We made up more menus than we had days to cook in. He washed the dishes too, shoo-ed me out of the kitchen, back to the computer, while he washed, rinsed and wiped surfaces. The only thing he didnt do in the kitchen was clean out the fridge, and, well, if you have ever lived with me then you would understand the extent of the daunting-ness of that task. He vacuumed secretly while i was at Uni.
He took me out for dinner and tried everything i offered him. My favourite moment was when i forgot he didnt like sweet stuff so much and gave him a bite of turkish delight. He chewed with no comment, so i asked him, what do you think? He replied ‘My mouth is full of soap.’ It tastes like soap to me too now.
He gave me massages. I would take 10 min breaks from studying and he would massage my feet, or hands, or face, or back, or legs, whatever, and then send me back to the computer. Or try to entice me to stay longer. When i studied at home he went out and left me without distractions.
He met everyone in my family and made an effort to communicate with all of them. He brought presents for most of them, and informs me he already has presents for those who missed out. He took me shopping and bought me a cool t-shirt. He raided my Dad’s shed and made me a light for my bedroom, and has plans for lighting designs to implement next time he comes.
He fell in love with Triple J, and now listens to it on the computer back in Japan. He liked the easiness and variety of life in Adelaide and totally adored the Markets. I understand; i feel most comfortable at the Markets too. He made my lttle apartment feel homey and warm, and he’s coming back in Dec/Jan.

And lets not forget that he skymails me everyday when we are not together, and he travelled all this way to hang out with me for two weeks, after not seeing each other for 8 months, and after only knowing each other for 10 days… I dont know whether that is faith or foolishness but either way im impressed. And in return, well, im trying to figure out how a job in conflict management in a multinational in Japan would go in a couple of years time…
