Garage sailing photo essayCategories: Life in progress Home Economics

Grant is a bit of a demon driver, and at 6:50am, I’m a bit unstable, hence the quality of this photo!
I took a few pics of the whole garage sailing process and made a photo essay about it. Its over at flickr, just click on the pic here and it will take you to the start. After quite a few mornings of slim pickings, it was nice to get a good haul yesterday. I spent $9.20 and got an old INXS cd (Shaboo Shooba - I used to own it on vinyl another lifetime ago), a wicker basket that will either work in the laundry or the bedroom, a spaghetti jar (20c), a pack of 100 tealites and a queen-size electric blanket. Im a bit anti electric blankets on the whole, but im already using all of my quilts and its only autumn! I was so cold last winter. I wont be this winter.
Earlier in the week i bought a dark, English oak, drop-sided table at the auctions that i plan to put in the kitchen, and that i believe will be very useful for sewing. I have been in a bit of a sewing mood for a while now, and the urge to make bags out of some of the kimono fabric I brought back has been pretty strong. The table i have at the moment is also a drop-sided one, perfect for the little space it occupies, but the veneer top is too slippery for sewing, and its too small to do any cutting, or to do sewing + another activity (ie eat dinner). The new table not only looks great, but can do all this, and the price tag was only $17.
Gawd, the auctions, garage sales, my brother will be shaking his head at how much like my grandfathers and father I am. As for me, I swear its hereditary and that I have no choice in the matter. It’s my destiny to be a rubbish rummager and a recycler.
