Leftover Rice

When MJ and I were housemates (a long time ago now!!!), she had this great recipe with left-over rice which she simply called “Comfort Food”. We ate it so often in those early years, and i guess we both kinda got tired of it. I havent eaten it for ages, but faced with just the right amount of leftover Real Japanese Rice, i thought i would take a trip down memory lane and make Comfort Food!

To make this fabulous yet incredibly easy dish for one person, you need:
enough leftover rice
a 180g (approx) can of tuna, drained
a big handful of chopped spinach, or baby spinach leaves
a big handful of grated tasty/cheddar cheese

And then you have to:
Fry the rice in a little oil or water, when its hot add the other ingredients, and when its all hot season with lots of black pepper and a little salt and eat! Yum, 5 mins and you are done!

Why does spinach make your mouth feel funny?

We must have needed a lot of comfort in those days… (^_~)

Although possibly we just overdid dishes - remember the Winter of Nabe Mania?

I made this tonight but used a can on the flavoured tuna (spicey tomato) and added in a chopped tomato as well.  SUPER YUMMY and a great way to use up the rice in the rice cooker before it goes all yellow and hard…

I normally make cha-han with an egg and a packet of MSG laden cha-han mix.  The new way is MUCH yummier!!

        Thanks babe!!

MJ, i do indeed remember the Winter of Endless Nabe and Ojiya… it was great, but yeah, i think we nabe-ed ourselves out. Which is a shame, cos in searching for ojiya recipies i found a whole stack of delicious nabe ideas over at Blue Lotus…

And Ms. T, im dying to try out Yoshi’s chahan recipie but cant find chuka-agi anywhere, buggerit! But the tomato variation sounds…. slightly heretical actually…?

I made a version of this today - it was fabulous!  Thank you for the tip!

Sar, i was hoping you would post your version! Im looking forward to trying Ms. T’s version soon.

And i was going to say, there is a green leafy veg that is better than spinach for this dish, and i think its called Komatsuna (but my memory is not great for J-words these days, Komatsuna could easily be a city name. I will check.)
