Life from the 9th floor…Categories: I heart Tokyo
The floor is vibrating under my feet, but it\Zs not an earthquake. I\Zm high up in a building across from Shibuya Station, on the corner of Meijidori and Miyamasuzaka. It\Zs a hell of a corner these days, as you would know if you\Zve been there recently. I guess they are building a subway; maybe it\Zs the new line between Shibuya and Ikebukuro (why? I\Zm sure there\Zs a good reason, but there\Zs also the Yamanote line\Z.) which is due to open in 2007. There has been very interesting heavy machinery there for months now, but I keep forgetting my camera.
Tokyu Bunkakaikan was knocked down quite a while back, at least a year ago, and I\Zve been wondering why no work has been done on it since. Every time I go to lunch I look down and I see a single file of men in hard hats walking towards the main road and I have recently realised they are walking down under Meijidori, and that the Bunkakaikan site is one of the main access points into the subway-under-construction! Interesting the way this city works, never ceases to fascinate me.
