New Year’s Eve, we sang it in.Categories: Adventures
Im not quite sure how it happened but on Dec 29, Fiona, Andrew, Richard and I decided that a Karaoke ‘small-p’ party for New Year’s Eve would be just the thing. So then on the 30th, very last minute, the boys went looking for a karaoke machine to rent for the evening. Hint to all readers: dont leave these things to the last minute. Or actually, necessity being the mother of invention and all that, do! Since there were no machines available, the boys went and bought 3 karaoke DVDs for about a tenth of the price, hooked up the tv to the stereo system, hooked up a mic and amplifier to that, and Bob was our Uncle! And then all these people called and said they wanted to come too, and everything turned into a big-P Party.
Now, the boys had a bit of an advantage over us gals in that most of them are rabid attention seekers with a great deal of experience showing off their voices, guitar skills, dramatic skills and the most private parts of their bodies in one case, so they were racing up to the mic, solo or in groups.
The music was all oldies, but it was great fun! The girls got in on the act later on, once the drinks had really kicked in. We had one strong, powerful voice supporting us all in the wonderful Kate Battersby, but generally we huddled together, safety in numbers and all that, with only Kate going solo.
Suddenly it was midnight! Woohoo, kisses all round! The music continued and turned into live music at some point as the guitars came out… more beers were drunk, more people were drunker...it all got kinda blurry. Ash turned up at some point, and at the end of the evening Fiona did me a tarot reading for the year, which due to some short-term memory problems i am very sad to say i dont remember. But i think it was good. There were lots of knights and princes. That would be nice. And then Ash and I left, it was 4:30am and we had another Christmas Day II in a few hours time.
It was such fun, so relaxed and easy. Damn i love a summer New Years!

Sounds like a great night! Still, you couldn’t expect anything less from one of Fiona’s parties.
