Shimoda long weekend

The weather was amazing, it alternated between gorgeous clouds, brief showers and fierce sunshine. I took a good book (Neal Stephenson’s Diamond Age, hooked me from the first page!) and managed to avoid anything too active for the whole time. There was a bit of snorkelling for the first time - i cant believe i waited this long to try it! It was fascinating, saw lots of swimming-life including a mother and baby stingray, and heaps of really delicious looking bream! Also did a tiny bit of bodyboarding, a spot of frisbee here and there, a walk up to the restaurants and back every now and then, and an onsen each night to soak the sticky sand off of us, but mostly just lay on the beach getting brown. It was good.

A nice young policeman did come down on our last day and let us know that we werent allowed to camp on the beach, but he wasnt too stressed about it, and i think that the only reason he came was because there were some people with a constantly barking dog who probably annoyed the local residents. There were quite a few people camping, and it was much nicer on the beach than up at the campsite…  A great time all in all!
