The Sewing Report

Well, it was a chilly grey day, prefect weather for a sewing Sunday. However, there were a few struggles and delays with the pattern and i was truly glad that it was only the 3 of us gals wrestling with it!

“They seem to be pretty simple...”; famous last words! I dont care whose credit card I have to borrow, but we will be using only Vogue patterns in the future!

One pair of pants was finished, and another two will be completed on Thursday (check back for photos!). It may have been a frustrating day, but we all learned a lot. This kind of struggling is how I learned it from the start. Its also the reason why i have so many unfinished projects.... thanks for keeping me going Gals!

Next entry: Why???

They didn’t look that hard. But patterns can be tricky. Next time you’re over, I’ll show you my collection—mainly in Japanese sewing mooks. Maybe we can find a good one to try or to adapt.

The sizing chart on the back was completely wrong.  Plus whoever laid out the pattern for printing should have been shot.  But it was interesting and of course fantastic to spend the day with intelligent and dynamic women!!

I think it was oversimplified, entirely unfitted, and yeah, the sizing was way off. There were no piece-matching ^’s or ^^’s, you know the ones i mean, that help you identify exactly where matching pieces should match up (what are they called again?). I remember working with a reasonably elaborate pattern for a 1800’s Russian coat, the finished pattern was given to me directly by the patternmaker with no instructions whatsoever beyond the ^’s, and it was no problem. Simple things like that would have saved us heaps of time and stress last night, I wish id thought to add them myself.

I recall that the phrase “whats this then?” is a Sue Lewis term. Is this your recollection?

Well, no, actually i was thinking of the old British tv show, cant remember which one it was but there was this character who always said “‘Ello, ‘ello ‘ello, whats all this then?” Now who was that? Im thinking it was a policeman…?
