Time keeps on slipping into the past…Categories: Alchemy
The girls are coming tomorrow! MJ, Ms. T and Kuri all arrive (with their gentlemen in tow of course, tho Ash is far behind them) for a week of adventures on the West Coast. They have planned a Matsuri for Elliston - it wont know what hit it. Elliston, if you are listening; there will be a Festival probably out the front of the Post Office on the 20th, probably early evening. You are all invited. You will be hearing more about this.
I am really looking forward to seeing these good friends again, tho i have to admit, im in a bit of a time warp, and im finding it all kinda amusing and disorienting, to be reliving different stages of life in different contexts. Living at home in a familiar situation but unfamiliar house with Mum, watching tv all evening, turning into a couch potato with less resistance than i expected. The radio plays music from when i lived here before, the same songs still. I quickly and easily get pulled into ‘Tokyo never existed’. This worried me until I realised it doesnt need to. Im not going to get stuck in anything at this stage yet, because see, its just a game, look - it continues…
Next week will be largely spent being one of the girls again, with the small difference that they all have Tokyo as a main reference point, and in that same category, i have nothing. So I will take their reference point and make it mine for the week. We will all stay together in a cabin on the West Coast of SA, and speak our mix of Japanese and English, cook our mix of Japanese and Everything, and talk about people i know, events ive missed… It will be my old life, relocated and slightly out past its use by date.
And then MJ and I will probably go over much of our 20+ year history like a plate of antipasto, going way beyond the main Tokyo reference back into school days…
Monitoring the transition period. I was waiting for it in Thailand, but it never came. Its kinda happening now, a very interesting jumble of times and places, all past tho. There is still no clear future beyond knowing the suburb the future’s located in and the field of study. I suspect that once the future actually gets started, then the transition period will really kick in, but for now its limbo, all mixed up and dreamlike.
