Travelling time againCategories: Life in progress Travel Tales
Tomorrow I’m off to the Blue Lake for a couple of days on an intensive. It should be a good mix of fun and interesting. We start with a bit of a girly road trip, and there is the possibility of getting into a hot tub (my first bath since leaving Japan… i have missed hot water so badly!) followed by catching up with an old friend. On the interesting side there are 2 days (teachers) and one evening (parents) of trainings on restorative justice systems in schools. Ive just finished packing, got some last minute odds and ends to do (like burn a cd for the 5 hr drive - Gareth Brooks will start hurting my ears after the first ten minutes) ... oh, and grab the camera too - just in case there is any time for pics. There was an awesome sunset tonight, i hope someone on Flickr caught it!

have you noticed that when you say you haven’t had a bath for months, that people kind of wrinkle their noses up and take a step away?
i notice it here in japan - then i have to painstakingkly explain that, no, i am not one of the unclean. i, in fact, prefer showers. they then start smiling again and step back towards me. -

I had indeed noticed that. A lady asked me once; “Do you have a bath everyday?” and I said no, and she wrinkled her nose just like you said and nodded like that was what she expected. “That’s why foreigners wear perfume” she said knowingly to the other girl in the class. And then I realised, and informed her that whilst i might not bath everyday, i certainly showered everyday, and that perfume is these days seen as a luxury that many people indulge in, not a BO cover up.
