“Vote early, vote often and vote well!”Categories: Life in progress Conflict management
I went to a political party at Fiona and Andrews last night, wow, that was fun! Feeling a bit tender today but mostly pretty good.
I started the day early, helping Dad out with his church’s garage sale. I was selling (and eating) sausages out in the sun all morning…. maybe not the wisest thing to do, the sun was quite hot! The church was being used as an voting centre so we got quite a few people coming through, tho not as many as I expected. Maybe more came in the afternoon? I went home and chilled inside all afternoon, and then went up to Fiona’s in the evening… By the time I got there it was already pretty clear that Labour would win, so the celebrating started straight away with margaritas! There were a few funny moments, my favourite was one commentator’s blunder, something along the lines of a 5% swing towards Maxine McKew for the ABC… er… ALP… heheheh.
It was all kinda interesting; it all looked polished and unreal like a West Wing episode, Howard’s concession speech was considerably improved by all the party audience’s participation and the same with Rudd’s. It was a bit disappointing to hear all the nationalism in Rudd’s speech. Still, I had a very fun night, and everyone was buoyed by a good deal of optimism which I think will last for a while. All of the people who were present are actively political in one way or another, and I believe many of us will see improvements in in our work context , whether that be though better informed policies creating fundamental realignments in program development and delivery, or through more compatible attitudes to justice and social justice. Thank god Mal Brough lost his seat. Im sad to say I dont think there is gonna be much improvement on the environmental level. A bit, but not a sufficient amount. Oh well.
I voted Green, Labour was my second preference. Its a bit tricky voting under the line. When I got to them, I really felt bad about giving any kind of vote for Family First or the Shooters party.
I crashed at Fiona’s, took the bus home this morning. Er, no longer this morning. Hmmm, I seem to be moving a little slower than I thought I was. Better go get in the shower and get started on the housework. I might actually watch a bit of West Wing this evening!
